LAKE WORTH (CBS4) – An investigation is underway after an 18-year old was struck and killed by a police officer when she tried to cross I-95 on foot.

It happened about 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway south of Forest Hill Boulevard. The Florida Highway Patrol said Samantha Jean Conlisk left her car on the right-hand shoulder and ran across the lanes. Lake Clark Shores police officer Clifford Stuart Zipnick was not able to stop so he swerved in an effort to avoid hitting her. His police sedan clipped Conlisk; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zipnick was not hurt, although his sedan was damaged.

I read that the family has filed a law suit against the city for what?
It sounds like the officer did what he could to avoid hitting a person running where they didn’t belong.
I don’t get this lawsuit at all.

perhaps he couldn’t see her – not is all as it appears.
