Fmr. Broward Lifeguard Faces Sex Abuse Charges

BROWARD COUNTY (CBS4) - A New York man has been extradited to Broward County to face charges he sexually assaulted a 7 year-old boy while living with they boy's family last summer.

Jefferson Kurtz, 18, was booked into a New York City jail Thursday and authorities immediately began the process of transporting him to South Florida.

Kurtz faces three counts of sexual battery, four counts of lewd and Lascivious Molestation, and one count of Lewd and Lascivious Exhibition in the presence of a minor.

Pembroke Pines Police say Kurtz is a friend of the victim's family and was staying with them in their Pembroke Isles home over a over a several month period beginning in June.

Police say during Kurtz's stay in South Florida, he worked as a lifeguard at the Jewish Committee Center in Aventura.

Because he was in contact with children, police notified JCC administration of the charges Kurtz faces.

Police say no other victims have come forward as of yet.
