Sports Agenda for Wednesday (1/12/11)

Tim KephartBy: Your Fearless Author, Tim

Big Story:
Actually it was a pretty slow news day in South Florida sports. Still, LeBron James used his Twitter account to unleash with both barrels on his former team and city. For those of you who haven't been following it, the Cavaliers, LeBron's old team, is straight up awful.

How awful you ask? Well, the Cavaliers played the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night and lost by 55 points. 55 POINTS! That's akin to getting beat by 70 in football. I mean really, you have to try to be that bad.

Remember, this is the same franchise and city that essentially wanted to kill LeBron and wished him harm. So, after getting punked by 55 points, LeBron went to Twitter and posted a message saying, "Crazy. Karma is a bitch. Gets you every time. It's not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything."

Zing!

Miami Heat: @ Los Angeles Clippers (10:30 p.m. Sun Sports HD)
Well, with LeBron's comments in tow, the Heat take to the court tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers. For the Heat defense the game plan is simple, avoid getting posterized by Clippers forward Blake Griffin. He's a physical freak who can literally jump out of the gym.

To check out how good Griffin's dunks are, check it out here.

Dolphins:
The Fins continue their pursuit of an offensive coordinator to spice up the offense. The three names mentioned so far do nothing to inspire much confidence in the offense. One has been fired as an offensive coordinator from the Cleveland Browns, which is like getting fired from the Weekly World News for failing to check your sources.

There aren't a lot of big name offensive coordinators out there, so we'll see what the Fins can come up with. Whoever it is, the quarterback position is the key to the whole equation. So we'll find out quickly who will survive on the roster to next season. Just please don't sign either Vince Young or trade for Kevin Kolb. Both are disasters.

Panthers: next game vs. Nashville Predators on Thursday
Well, the Panthers reached up and bit a team in the thick of the Eastern Conference race when they beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 on Tuesday night. While any win for the Panthers is good news, the team is 11 points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and the team's inconsistency from night to night, especially at the goalie position is killing the Panthers season.

Marlins:
38 days until pitchers and catchers report to training camp. (I had 37 yesterday, but obviously my math was juuuuuust a bit outside.)

A few other notes from around the sports world that you can dazzle your friends and coworkers with:

There's an old saying of if you tempt a snake enough, eventually you'll get bit. Someone needs to explain that to  New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Tuesday he said the following about New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady when asked what kind of guy Brady is. "An a**hole. F*** him."

Remember, this is the same Tom Brady who the last time he played the Jets led the Patriots to a 45-3 victory a few weeks ago. He's thrown for 36 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. Is this really the guy you want to make angry? I mean, I know Cromartie can't remember the name of all of his kids, but c'mon man.

The Carolina Panthers hired defensive coordinator Ron Rivera to be their new head coach. Boring hire, but he may be just what the doctor ordered on defense, now all he needs is a quarterback. (Doesn't every NFL team not named the Saints, Colts, Patriots, Falcons, Packers, Steelers, Ravens, Jets, and Chargers say?)

The "Melo"drama surrounding Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony and his potential trade to New Jersey continues to drag on. The Nets have put together the framework of a 15 player deal between them, the Nuggets, and the Pistons. The Nets are willing to mortgage the farm to get Anthony, who wants to play in New York, and won't commit to signing a long-term contract with the Nets. The problem is the Nuggets are trying to offload a massive contract for Al Harrington and no one wants it, I'm shocked! So there's no news on that front other than the Nets are going all in for a player who doesn't know what defense is and has none of the drive to win that LeBron, Wade, or Bosh have. (Good luck with that New Jersey)

The NBA had something you don't hear about every year….the Hawks game was snowed out last night because roads were impassible. Gotta love snow in the South!

And finally….your Wacky Wednesday doses of Fail!!!!

Watch the Minnesota Timberwolves commit 5 technical fouls in a grand total of 10 seconds.
