School Evacuation Ends Following Grenade Scare

MIRAMAR (CBS4) -- Students at a Miramar charter school were evacuated Tuesday following the discovery of a hand grenade, according to police but the all clear has been given.

According to Miramar Fire Chief Bill Huff, the grenade was found at Somerset East Preparatory Academy, located at 2000 State Road 7 in Miramar.

Chief Huff said no students were ever in danger and the Broward Sheriff's Office now has custody of the device. It's believed a student brought the grenade to class.  Officials say a BSO bomb squad determined the grenade was inactive and police are talking to the child who brought it to school.

The students, who were evacuated to a school PE field, were allowed back inside the building around 1:00 p.m.
