CBS4 Viewers Break Adopt-A-Family Record

MIAMI (CBS4) -- It was a happy holiday for hundreds of South Florida families in need and its all thanks to CBS4 viewers who participated in the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Adopt-A-Family Program.

"We reached out to Neighbors 4 Neighbors and they facilitated us meeting this wonderful family," said Orlando Vega who organized an adoption for his staff at the Baptist Medical Plaza in Palmetto Bay.

Individuals, groups and even local businesses, like Baptist Medical Plazas, got involved which resulted in record high numbers for this year's program. More than 2,300 families were adopted this holiday season.

"We all came together, we bought gifts, we wrapped gifts, which was the fun part of it and delivered it to them," Vega proudly told CBS4's Nicole Maristany.

These special deliveries supported families in need across South Florida.

"It's what our mission is all about, support our community, and support those in need, and by helping out these families we are helping the community," added Vega.

Others donated gift cards and toys, which brought this year's totals to a whopping 2,500 toys and more than 22-thousand dollars in gift cards.

"All you have to do is put some energy into it, put some passion into it and enjoy the moment because it's a wonderful thing to do," said Vega.

The Adopt a Family program may be over but there's still a way for you to help families in need throughout the year through the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Family Fund.
