Child Dead, Several Injured In Palmetto Rollover Crash

HIALEAH (CBS4) - A 4-year-old girl is dead, and another child was seriously injured in a rollover crash on the Palmetto Expressway Friday night.

Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Annunziato said a red SUV and a dark colored minivan collided in the southbound lanes of the State Road 826 at West Okeechobee Road. The red SUV, driven by a woman with her two grandchildren, flipped over

A 4-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the girl later died. The grandmother was taken by an ambulance to JMH, where she and the boy are recovering and are expected to survive.

The driver of the dark minivan was also taken to Palmetto General Hospital and is expected to be okay.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but Lt. Annunziato said it appears that the red SUV was rear-ended by the minivan.
