Walls Of Flame Destroy Country Club

BOCA RATON (CBS4) - Wind whipped flames and massive column of black smoke could be seen for miles in Boca Raton early Sunday morning from fire that destroyed an abandoned country club.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Correggio said they received a call at approximately 8 a.m. about the structure fire at 7601 E. Country Club Boulevard.   Correggio said flames and smoke could be seen as far south as I-95 and Palmetto Park Road.

Dozens of firefighters battled the flames from both on the ground and with elevated water streams.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under the investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.  Fire officials estimate the damage to exceed $1,000,000.
