MIA SunPass Option To Ease Travels

Travelers and SunPass customers traveling through Miami International Airport may find it easier to park with the addition of the SunPass program.

Officials from Florida's Turnpike Enterprise and Miami International Airport (MIA) announced that SunPass customers may use their transponders to pay for parking at MIA by opting into the SunPass Plus program.

The option comes just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel week.

Miami resident Danny Rose is visiting family in Lake City, Fla. on one of the busiest travel days in the year- Wednesday- the day before Thanksgiving Day. Rose, who plans to use the SunPass option, said he doesn't see any 'real advantage' entering the parking lot but is looking forward to a quick exit from the lot after his travels.

"It will be a speedy departure knowing I don't have to use a credit card at the exit," Rose said. "You don't have to wait in long lines to pay."

Over four million Floridians currently have a SunPass account, officials said. Orlando Torres, Deputy Director of Toll Operations at SunPass, said the airport parking option is an added value to SunPass customers.

"Shared services such as being able to pay for your airport parking are an additional value for SunPass customers," Torres said. "This should prove to be of great value to them."

SunPass Plus is also already available at Palm Beach, Tampa and Orlando airports. Eventually it will be available at Ft Lauderdale airport as well, officials said.

SunPass customers must elect the Easy Pay replenishment option. Then look for the SunPass Plus logo when entering and exiting the airport's parking garage.

If their e-mail address is registered with SunPass, an electronic parking receipt will be sent to them immediately. The parking charge will also appear on their account activity statement.

Officials said the Easy Pay replenishment option can be selected at www.sunpass.com or by calling customer service at 1-888-865-5352.
