Donated Costumes Are Real Treats For Needy Kids

MIAMI (CBS4) - A South Florida family has made a donation that'll help children's charities provide costumes to kids in need just in time for Halloween.

Sue Gordon and her family own a local business, and they were looking to make a connection in the community.

"We make costumes for children's dance recital studios, color guard, drill teams, majorettes, dance teams, we outfit schools," Gordon explained.

Sue was hoping she could connect her company with the community.

"We had quite a few things sitting around, and we were looking for a way to get to people that can use it," Gordon said.

With Halloween around the corner, Neighbors 4 Neighbors thought the costumes could find great homes with three local children's charities.

"Getting it out to the community, and finding the charities really took Neighbors 4 Neighbors to make that happen for us so we really appreciate that," said Gordon.

Starlight Children's Foundation, Food of Life Outreach Ministries and Neat Stuff each have unique causes that help children, but they all share the same excitement over this costume donation.

"Our under privileged kids, low income families, people that are out of work and this is huge for them to enjoy Halloween and get costumes that are quality, so were just loving it," shared Minister Oxford, Executive Director of Food of Life Outreach Ministries.

Amy Kerlin from Starlight Children's Foundation explained why the donations mean so much to the families Starlight serves. "They're dealing with medical expenses. So many times they can't afford costumes so something like this is absolutely going to make their day."

Franklin Monjarrez, Executive Director of Neat Stuff For Kids agreed. "If a Halloween costume can make a difference for that one night, then what better gift to bring a smile to a child's face."

And it's bringing a smile to the face of the donors too.

"It doesn't matter how big or small your organization is, everybody can sit back and think of some way to help," Gordon exclaimed.
