Top Spring 2016 Races In South Florida

Whether for a love of running or just trying to get "bathing suit ready," running in races is a great way to get or stay in shape. There is no shortage of race opportunities this spring in South Florida. Below are the top five races offered throughout South Florida in the next few weeks. Many have registration fees that go up closer to the race, so be sure to sign up today!

This race will be hosting its fourth year in Ft. Lauderdale and aims to "break the social stigma with addiction and mental health disorders." Late registration fee, which is available up to June 3, is $35 per participant and is $50 on race day (June 4). Runners can even bring along their dogs for an extra $5 to be a part of the "Wag & Run." The Mack Cycle Trilogy series, hosted by Multirace, includes three separate races, which include the triathlon & aquabike, the sprint triathlon and the duathlon. /it also happens to be the oldest triathlon series in South Florida. Racers are encouraged to show up prior to 6:15 a.m. in order to not miss the race. Race fees range from $89 to $189 depending upon the race and when the registration is completed. The Down 2 Earth race offers various levels for all types of runners, from a 5K up to a half marathon. Taking place in Oleta River State Park, it provides a serene and natural environment for the race. Participant fees range from $30 to $60 depending up the level and date being registered for. Get in the Independence Day spirit early this year with the 44th annual Freedom 5K hosted by Greater Fort Lauderdale Road Runners Club. This race is perfect for all ages and the entire family, and in addition to the 5K Run/Walk there is a Kid's Dash and Youth Mile, both for a low $5 per child, and seniors over age 80 run for free. Don't forget to dress in patriot colors as there is a special award for the three participants that dress the most patriotic. This race will kick off at Shelter #8 at Vista View Park with the race starting at 7 a.m. Race fees range from $15 to $30 depending on the racers' age, and there is a $1.50 per person fee to enter the park (or $8 max per car/van).
