Due to what some might call “excruciating heat,” many South Floridians prefer to go to outdoor events in the winter and fall, simply because it is “just too hot” to be outside during the summer. The good news is that it doesn’t snow in South Florida and fall weather tends to be amazing, making it the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the weather and atmosphere. Here are five “cool” outdoor concert events to consider getting out and enjoying this fall. Between showcases and concert series, there is something for everyone.

With September marking the month of Hispanic culture and Mexican Independence, Florida has been pretty busy with festivals, carnivals and events that celebrate Hispanic origins. Most events have food, dance and — most importantly — music. Coconut Creek has a very nice festival planned for a Saturday morning through to the afternoon, which is free and open to the public. From 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., audiences can join The City of Coconut Creed and The Multicultural Circle and enjoy a mini-concert event by Healing Rhythms & Jazz, Interactive Music Experience Indigo Nation (Latino fusion), Beatriz Malnic & Ivo de Carvalho (Brazilian music).

With free admission and lawn seating, Jose Gonzalez returns to South Florida for a special visit. An indie-folk artist, NPR raves that “With a small group, the music is spacious, somewhat sensual. His classical guitar chords are melodic, the harmonies adventurous, his voice soothing.” Jose’s return has been highly anticipated. In his absence, he has been working on and composing film soundtracking, touring and expanding upon his own music abilities.

With three and a half nights of non-stop love for music, no one is doing it better than the greater Fort Lauderdale area this fall. From Friday night and until Sunday night, local artists and musicians will be coming together to entertain the city and surrounding neighborhoods. This is an initiative by Broward County to revive the local arts venues and show support to local talents, while empowering the community. Under the guise, “Duende,” there will not only be live music performances, but artists will also be welcomed to perform and compete in ARTwar, a new way for artists to create! Tickets are running from absolutely free up to $85 a ticket. Catch shows at the following locations:

Every third Friday, The Rhythm Foundation and The Little Haiti Cultural Center put on a live event called “Big Night in Little Haiti,” an event which includes live music, food and culture. Performing Oct. 19 is dISIp, a Haitian Konpa act with roots in Miami. Between sets, DJ Mack will be performing as well. Head out every third Friday to catch a new group performing. This is a free event.

A night of praise, some of Gospel’s top acts will be joining in with audiences for one night. Tickets range between $38 and $68, and this event will take place rain or shine. The shows lined up consists of both Grammy-award winning artists and top ten acts. Performers include: Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker, Kim Burrell, Isaac Carree, Jessica Reedy, Zacardi Cortez and Marcus Wiley.
