South Florida is home to a large population of artists and loaded with galleries and museums. Art buyers frequent Miami for art shows as do thousands of collectors and fans. Here are some of the best art shows you’ll find not only here, but in the entire country.

Art Basel

Miami Beach  – Early December of Each Year

When Art Basel comes to town, Miami Beach turns into an Art World.  The three-day show has been deemed the most important art show in the United States, a cultural and social highlight for the Americas. The show is a spin-off and sister to Switzerland’s Art Basel, the most prestigious art show in the world. Special exhibitions are set-up all over Miami’s creative Art Deco District for the show and at night art parties take place all over the city. It is one of the biggest annual events in South Florida.

Coconut Grove Arts Festival

Coconut Grove – February of Each Year
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is a family friendly outdoor art show featuring the work from over 350 artists. The festival usually kicks off in Mid-February, when it is bitter cold in most parts of the country. In South Florida, February is warm, and art lovers from around the world flock to the streets of Coconut Grove in t-shirts and shorts. Some people go to the festival to buy art, but if you are not in the market you can enjoy the view and live music. There’s also a culinary arts pavilion offering delicious local cuisine.

The Miami International Art Fair

Miami Beach Convention Center- January of Each Year

The Miami International Art Fair is brand new and will hold it’s second annual event January 13-17, 2011 on Miami Beach. The mid-winter fair highlights contemporary artwork and integrates innovative educational art projects. Although it is a new fair, the reviews from 2010 were quite favorable. More than 17,000 visitors, exhibitors, and collectors came out for the show.
