Best Local Comics In Miami

Miami isn't exactly bursting with homegrown comedians and those who come here to practice the art. However, Miami does have its share of laughmeisters who perform at local comedy clubs and anywhere else they can get an audience. Here are a few of the best local comics in Miami. -- Derek Reveron

High-energy comic Johnny "Trabs" Trabanco will leave you laughed-out. Sometimes Trabs skewers the absurdities and banalities of everyday life. Sometimes he's downright silly-funny. Other times he's insightful-funny. Trabs has won several local and national comedy contests. He performs regularly at Miami-area comedy clubs as a solo act and as half of a comedy duo called "A Pair of Nuts." He and partner Yamil Piedra once performed a comedy skit on television attired in pink thongs. They've recorded hilarious videos, including "The Law Offices of Facmee & Diaz" and "The Happy Hour with Substance."

Surely, one of best local comics in Miami is six-foot Jessica Gross. This in-your-face comic packs the house at Miami's most popular comedy clubs. Gross spouts hilarious hard truths about women, men, UTIs, relationships and "midget" men. Guys, she'll make you blush. She'll riff on anything from slutty kid's Halloween outfits to female senior citizens who splash on men's cologne. Gross and her husband produced and directed a comedic Web series entitled "The Adventures of a Sexual Miscreant," a send-up on erotic deviancy. No, Gross doesn't star in the series, and don't watch it at work.

Daniel Reskin is a Miami native with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and it shows in his offbeat sense of humor. On his LinkedIn page, Reskin refers to himself as an "intake intention decipherer." He adds, "Give me moneys and I will talk ha-ha-makers at you." Commenting on his work history as a waiter, he cracks, "I would not recommend the special, as it is currently escaping." Reskin performs at local comedy clubs, restaurants, bars and other venues. He sometimes hosts Casa de Ha-ha, a monthly showcase of local known and wannabe stand-up comics held in the café of Sweat Records, a popular Miami sounds shop owned by his brother.
