we have Dr. Charles Drew to thank for pioneering the way blood plasma is stored.

Dr. Drew was a surgeon and researcher who also organized America's first large-scale blood bank.

He established organizational standards and made sure safety protocols were followed when it came time to treat military and civilian casualties in preparation of WWII.

Dr. Drew was the head of Howard University's Department of Surgery and educated  generations of African American physicians.

Today, we honor Shirley Chisholm.

Shirley Chisholm was an American politician, educator, and author. 
In 1968, she became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress as a Representative for New York. Then in 1972, she became the first Black person to seek the presidential nomination from one of the two major parties. 

Her campaign slogan : “Unbought and Unbossed."

She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Harriet Tubman Society.
