S. Fla. Guide To Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend is here and South Floridians, including crowds from around the world, are enjoying the state and what it had to offer. From BBQs to parades, time in the sun and simple family fun South Florida has a lot to offer this weekend, the unofficial start to summer vacation season. And while we're having fun with family and friends, Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember and commemorate members of the United State military who died while serving their country.

Here's a list of events, including those honoring members we've lost and many other events across town this holiday weekend.

Join in on the celebration of this special "Day to Remember" where we will honor all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving this great country; and to recognize all the men and women in the Armed Forces today who continue to preserve our freedom.

The ceremony will begin on Monday at 10 a.m. with a gun volley delivered by the North Miami Beach Police Department Honor Guard Unit followed by the march of colors over the Snake Creek Canal Bridge led by the St. Andrew's Drum and Pipe Band of Miami.

Performed with pomp and circumstance, the service will also incorporate the participation of local clergy, city, county and state dignitaries; veterans' posts and auxiliaries; all branches of the Armed Forces, the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Fire Departments, the Florida Highway Patrol, Junior ROTC Units, youth groups, scout troops and local community and civic organizations.

12th Annual Urban Beach Week

Miami Memorial Day Weekend attracts hundreds of thousands of hip-hop fans that come to Miami and South Beach to enjoy three enjoyment-filled days packed with parties, events and, of course, celebrities.

Capacity crowds topping 200,000 fans are expected to fill just a few streets in the South Beach area from Ocean Drive to Washington Avenue south of 17th Street for parties and performances.

On Friday, join DJ Khaled at b.e.d. Miami Beach, Rick Ross at Space or Plies Live at Sobe Live.

Saturday's performances include Lloyd, Christ Brown and Keri Hilson at Bicentennial Park at 5 p.m., Jermaine Dupri at Arkadia Fountainebleau or Trey Songz at Play Nightclub.

Sobe Live is promoting Jim Jones and Juelz Santana on Sunday, while Stephen & Damian Marley will be at Best of the Best (Day 2) at Bicentennial Park.

Hallandale Beach Memorial Day Tribute

There are various free events planned around Hallandale Beach on Monday. Beginning at 9 a.m. at the cemetery at 609 NW Sixth Ave. followed by refreshments at 10 a.m. at the Hallandale Beach Cultural Community Center located at 410 SE Third St. Continue the Memorial Day tribute with a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Monument located at 400 S. Pompano Beach Patriotic Family Day
Pompano's family day starts with a ceremony at 9 a.m. at Westview Community Cemetery, 428 NW Sixth Ave., Pompano Beach. A parade follows at 11 a.m. on Southeast 23rd Avenue. Also includes an open house at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8182, 234 S. Dixie Hwy., Pompano Beach on Monday. This event is free.
