Police: Car Backfire Likely Caused Active Shooter Scare At Davie Movie Theater

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — An active shooter scare at a Davie movie theater was most likely caused by the sound of a car backfiring.

Davie police said they received a call about the possible gunfire Sunday night and evacuated the Cinemark theater as a precaution. Officers went theater-to-theater inside the complex and found no signs of a shooter, officials said.

Police later told news outlets that a passing vehicle's engine likely backfired, prompting the scare.
