BSO Investigating Body Found On I-595 As A Homicide

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - It's a murder mystery on the highway.

The body of a man was spotted on I595 Eastbound past Hiatus Road early Friday morning.

Florida highway patrol responded at 1:30 a.m. Davie fire rescue was called and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The case was turned over to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Overnight investigators combed the area for evidence. As dawn broke Friday, they could be seen on the shoulder of the road near the body covered in a yellow tarp.

Evidence markers were placed near his body.

"At this point, it's being investigated as a homicide' said BSO spokesman Carey Codd.

"There is limited information that can be released at this time. What's important to investigators, what they want to stress is this, if anyone was driving in that area, happened to capture video in that area between about 10 p.m. on Thursday night and about 1:30 a.m. Friday morning, detectives want to hear from them," said Codd.

CBS 4 spoke with retired veteran Miami Dade homicide detective Pat Diaz about the case for insight on how the investigation will proceed.

"From my experience we need to identify him and we trace his past to find out how he ended up on the side of the highway" he says

Diaz said with current identification methods, if the man had no i.d., it won't be hard to find his identity using fingerprints, provided he has a criminal record.

As for leaving his body in such a public place, Diaz says that is a clue in itself.

"Apparently they were angry with him. They weren't worried about police identifying him by leaving him outside on a road."

"In this world of electronics it will be easy to find out who he has been talking to and where he's been. You need to talk to friends and family members. What's at the scene is evidentary. If you know the victim you can find out the why.
