MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway after a man who had been shot was found unconscious in front of an Overtown market.

The man was found at NW 12th Street and NW 1st Place.

Investigators believe the man may have been shot in a different location and was looking for help when he collapsed.

“He was most likely shot somewhere else and walked or ran here,” said Miami police Officer Michael Vega.

Surveillance video from a corner store shows the man jogging then quickly walking down the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. A short time later only his arm is visible as he’s surrounded by police and paramedics.

Police officers followed a blood trail that appeared to come from a nearby apartment complex, but they know very little else.

“We have no information on where this happened,” said Vega. “We have no witnesses, no leads at this time, that’s why we’re reaching out to the public to get more information.”

The man, described as being in his 40s with a gunshot wound to his upper body, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery. He was listed in critical condition.

“This is just the second day of the year, to start off like this doesn’t feel good,” said Vega.
