Miami Police Find 12-Year-Old Danilo Vargas After Four-Hour Search

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The City of Miami Police Department and City of Miami Fire Rescue were out in full force Wednesday searching for a missing 12-year-old shy, autistic boy.

Fire rescue launched a drone in the search and Miami police brought in a search dog.

Crews even searched along the Miami River adjacent to Jose Marti Park.

"We are all here looking for Danilo," said One Life Church parishioner Daniella Monterey.

The search was for 12-year-old Danilo Vargas, who went missing in the Little Havana area around 4 in the afternoon. He had apparently jumped out of his mother's car after a visit to a health care provider.

"He has never done this before. It is confusing for everyone," said One Life Church parishioner Luis Osio.

Police cruisers crisscrossed Little Havana. Officers had help from members of the One Life Church where Danilo and his mom worship. The launched drone kept sending back images to police and fire rescue.

"Anytime you have a child missing, you want a robust response, as many resources as you can increases the chance of finding that child," said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll.

Four hours after he disappeared, he was found. The 12-year-old had traveled all the way from Little Havana to his home near Dadeland.

"The neighbor saw him walking that way. I don't know how he figured it out. He was walking that way. Glad we found him," a neighbor said.
