KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) – A scuba diver who was found unconscious in the water while diving a wreck off Islamorada has died.

Robert Wayne Burns, 67, was diving with a local charter when he was found unresponsive in the water. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was called at around 9:30 a.m. and they attempted CPR on Burns.

A responding Coast Guard crew took Burns to Bud N’ Mary’s Marina. From there, Burns, a New Jersey native, was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier where he was declared dead shortly after.

Investigators are still awaiting an autopsy report, but deputies don’t suspect foul play.
