Police Ask For Public's Help In Locating Hit-And-Run Driver In Miami-Dade
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police investigators are asking the public's help in locating a hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian in bad shape Tuesday morning.
Police said it happened in the area of West Dixie Highway and Northeast 144th Street at approximately 3:40 a.m.
Responding officers found an adult male suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
The victim, who was identified as 48-year-old Jean H. Saint Louis, was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Images from Chopper 4 showed several police units at the scene, as well as evidence markers on the ground.
Police said the man was crossing West Dixie Highway when he was struck by a car traveling Southbound on West Dixie Highway.
Authorities said the hit-and-run vehicle is a Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab, unknown year, yellow bumper in front, black bumper in back, missing passenger side mirror, missing both wipers, tinted windows, and has possible damage to the windshield.
Police have not released a description of the person who was driving the taxicab and it's not known what company he was driving for. They are urging witnesses to come forward.
Detectives scoured the area for surveillance tape. One business manager told CBS4'S Peter D'Oench that police retrieved his surveillance tape and even took his company's hard drive.
