Police ID Man Killed In Stand Off With Davie Police

DAVIE (CBSMiami) - A deadly end to a police standoff in Davie.

Police surrounded a mobile home on SW 73rd Avenue just south of Griffin Road around 2:30 a.m. Friday after getting an emergency call of a disturbance.

Juana Mena, who was inside the mobile home, then posted a video on Facebook pleading for help.

"I need help and so does my boyfriend. Ladies and gentlemen that's a shooting, they are trying to shoot us, you see what I'm talking about," she also posted.

Davie police said a SWAT team was called in to assist.

"It required a tactical response from our special response team as we negotiated with the individual inside the house," said Dave police Chief Dale Engle. "It was brought to our attention that he was not alone and that there was a female in there that we believed she was being held against her will."

Engle said negotiations "failed to resolve the issue" and when officers made contact, one of them shot and killed Mena's boyfriend.

Juana's father Moises said his daughter had known her boyfriend for five years and they never knew him to be violent. However, he said, he did have problems with his neighbors in the past.

"He had a problem with a neighbor before many times. One month ago, he had a similar problem like that, now you see what happened," he said.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Luis Lomonte.

Authorities say he came at them with a knife when they entered home and they were forced to open fire.

Davie did not respond to questions about the Facebook live stream or his YouTube rant.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
