Newborn Baby Girl Found Alive In Dumpster Near Boca Raton

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office is investigating how a baby ended up alone in a West Boca Raton dumpster on Wednesday morning.

PBSO says two people were walking in the Boca Entrada Apartment complex area, in suburban Boca Raton, when they heard a baby crying from inside of the dumpster.

The pair checked and found a newborn baby girl, according to PBSO.

The baby was alive and police said she was taken to a nearby hospital where she is expected to survive.

Resident Shella Dominique said after the baby was discovered, she saw a maintenance man run with the baby to an arriving EMS truck.

"The baby was crying and was dirty. We don't know how long she was in the dumpster. But it's sad" she said.

Investigators spent the morning going door to door asking residents if they had information on the baby's identity or whether they knew who left the baby in the dumpster.

"They asked me my name and whether I had seen a pregnant lady around here" said resident Joe Altieord.

Under Florida's Safe Haven Law, you can give up a newborn at a firehouse or hospital with no questions asked.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
