Raging Fire Guts Miami Business

MIAMI(CBSMiami) - Raging flames gutted a Miami business overnight.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames shooting through the roof when they arrived around 3 a.m.

"Fire crews saw heavy flames coming and realized that roof had actually collapsed, they had to attack this fire in a defensive mode from the outside," said Miami Fire Rescue Captain Ignatius Carroll.

The intense fire severely damaged and destroyed the cars and boats inside the Leonard Bros. Trucking building, at 2160 NW 26th Avenue.

Firefighters were concerned that they could have a potentially explosive situation on their hands.

"You end up having a lot of flammable liquids in there, oils, some vehicles that may have gas in it, a lot of those things could contribute to the intensity of the fire," said Carroll.

It took approximately 50 firefighters to get the fire under control. They had it extinguished in about an hour.

A witness told CBS4 that he saw two people running from the area shortly before the flames erupted.

Three dogs were rescued. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
