Water Main Break Creates Sink Hole On Red Road In Hialeah

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A water main break in Hialeah turned a section of Red Road into a wet mess Tuesday.

The city said a private contractor by the name of Bore Rite, LLC was digging in the area of West 4th Avenue (Red Road) and West 29th Street and ruptured a 54 inch Miami-Dade water main line.

This led to a significant amount of water spilling over the roadway and caused a large sinkhole to form at the intersection.

The intersection has since been shut down in all directions.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and to find alternate routes for the time being.

The shutdown is causing big problems for dozens of area businesses.

David Ideses of Million 305 Pawn Shop on West 29th Street says business has been dead.

"Look at the parking lot. No one can come in because police have it blocked off from the north, south, east and west" he said.

Repairs to the line will take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks according to officials.

Residents of the area may notice lower than normal water pressure during this time and are asked to conserve water.

There is no boil advisory at this time.
