One Dead, Another Injured In Strip Club Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An early morning brawl lead to a deadly shooting outside a strip club near Miami International Airport.

Miami-Dade Police identified the security guard who lost his life as 31-year-old Jose Otero of Coral Springs and said fellow security guard, 46-year-old Eric Bauer, was wounded in the upper part of the body and drove himself to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Diva Gonzalez, a dancer at the club, told CBS4'S Peter D'Oench, "The only thing I know is they killed a good man. He was a very admirable man. He was always asking us how we are doing, helping us and picking up money. He was a good man."

Gonzalez said, "This is sad. I would like to see the people caught and yes, they should turn themselves in. What they have done is wrong, especially to his family."

It happened around 6:30 a.m. at the Booby Trap Lounge at 3650 Northwest South River Drive.

"There was a physical altercation, some type of brawl that broke out inside the establishment. Security personnel escorted the parties involved outside, they were escorted out and vehicles were seen leaving," said Miami-Dade police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.

Sometime after, police say several vehicles drove past the club and gunfire erupted.

"Several individuals get off and open fire towards the establishment striking one of the security personnel that was standing outside and another additional security personnel," said Zabaleta.

Guillermo Canchan, a patron, said, "What happened is they got into a fight and security tried to take them apart. I saw the fight and everyone started running and I went to the back. About 10 people were there. They have had fight before but I have never seen anything like this."

Police say the men who fired on the club are armed and dangerous and they need help in finding them.

Zabaleta said, "These individuals are armed and dangerous and they were brazen going to the business this way. They opened fire with total disregard towards who they may strike."

It's not clear if the people who were kicked out of the club returned and opened fire. Police scoured the area for surveillance tape. They so far do not have a description of the suspects or their vehicles.
