LAKELAND (CBSMiami/AP) — Someone who swore to serve and protect has been charged for doing the opposite.

A former police officer at Florida Polytechnic University is facing charges that he sexually assaulted, harassed and stalked a woman.

The Lakeland Ledger reported Saturday that the woman told Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies that Winfred "Carl" Stocks Jr., a family member, had been abusing her since 2012.

The 57-year-old Stocks was arrested on several sex-related charges last week. A former police officer in Nashville, Tennessee, Stocks resigned from the university after his arrest. It wasn't clear Saturday if Stocks had a lawyer to represent him.

An arrest report says Stocks tried to force the woman to have sex with him by threatening to publicly share nude photos of her. Deputies say he also repeatedly harassed and cyberstalked the woman with hundreds of text messages.
