Reward Offered For Information In Deadly Kendale Lakes Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police are trying to solve a "baffling" murder mystery in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Police say Yemil Arguelles, 40, attended a holiday party Saturday night in Kendale Lakes when he was suddenly shot and killed.

"Shortly after arriving with his spouse, he was seen by the other partygoers clutching his chest and seemingly falling over," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Chris Thomas.

Arguelles, a father of two, died at a hospital a short time later. Miami Dade Police spent hours at the home and in the neighborhood Saturday evening and Sunday. On video showing the back of the home where Arguelles was shot, you see a couple of men — presumably detectives — pointing at an area across a lake behind the residence. Investigators say the bullet that killed Arguelles did not come from the home and no one at the party was involved.

"The bullet came from another area location possibly somewhere in the nearby area, behind the residence," Thomas said.

Across the lake from the home is a townhouse complex. Several people who live in the area said they heard gunshots late Saturday as a party was going on at the home where Arguelles was shot. At this point, police say they do not have any suspects.

"We don't know if it's a person who had an accidental discharge," Thomas said. "We don't know if it's a person who intentionally did this."

A couple of people we spoke with in the neighborhood are deeply concerned and afraid for their safety. They're hopeful that police can crack the case.

The family of Yemil Arguelles was too upset to speak on camera. They said Arguelles was a loving and dedicated father and husband and they are hoping the person who took his life is caught and punished. Police say that's what they're trying to do.

"Definitely bizarre and baffling to investigators and they're trying to get everything they can together to bring closure and help this man's family," Thomas said.
