FDLE Investigating After Unarmed Teen Shot By Miami-Dade Police Officer

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a police-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon.
Miami-Dade Police said it happened near the 30100 block of Southwest 146th Avenue at around 11:40 a.m.
"I have a lot of concerns as to what happened here so far," said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez.
Authorities said police were called after a 15-year-old boy was involved in an altercation with his guardian.
Police said the boy had been off his medications, causing his erratic behavior.
Family members of the guardian said the boy had only been at the house for a few weeks in foster care.
"I try to talk to him to go to school and do the right thing but I don't care what you say to him he's gonna do what he's going to do," said Lee Young, a family member of the guardians.
Responding officers tried to subdue the teenager and a single shot was fired striking the boy in the torso, according to police.
"During that physical altercation one of the officers discharged his gun one time," said Perez.
The minor was rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
Family of the young man's guardians were heartbroken their Thanksgiving Day plans were ruined by a senseless tragedy.
"We're supposed to meet at my grandmother's house in the next few minutes, but unfortunately the situation won't allow it," said family member Marquell Baugnhs.
The officer that pulled the trigger is a 28-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
That officer, as well as a supervisor, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the FDLE.
