DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A man and child are dead, hit and killed by someone driving a silver Cadillac.

Police say they got the call around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday for the accident that happened on the 6600 block of Griffin Road, just west of Davie Road.

Police say an adult male in his 40s, with two children were crossing the street near the median when the man and one child were hit.

Police say the other child is around 2 years old and was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The driver remained on scene.

"We don't have drugs or alcohol were factor," said Vivian Gallinal with Davie Police. "We don't know if speed was a factor either."

Authorities say the child that died was wearing a Halloween costume.

Police are now trying to find out who they are and where they were going.

They also want parents to remember that Halloween night is different from any other holiday.

It's a time where more people are out in the streets than usual, some in poorly lit areas. Using caution is the best way to keep you and your family safe.

"There's young kids that may just run out into the road and not be paying attention and so it's also very important for drivers to be extra careful," said Gallindal.
