MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An arrest has been made in the murder of a University of Miami student.

Robert Gore, 28, stabbed Yasser Abualfaraj to death in a botched robbery on October 7th, according to his arrest report.

The 23-year-old Abualfaraj was stabbed more than 60 times while he slept in his off-campus apartment in Coral Gables across U.S. One from the UM. Gore then went through the apartment looking for valuables.

Abualfaraj's body was discovered inside his 2nd-floor apartment by his roommate.

DNA found on a beer can and clothes inside the apartment led police to Gore, according to a source who spoke with CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald.

He was arrested at a Mobil gas station near SW 200th Street and Dixie Highway Wednesday afternoon.

Henry Yue, the manager of the Shell station next door, said the Gore was homeless and he often caught him shoplifting food. He said he had been coming to the store for years and was a real pest.

Yue told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "He was always outside asking people for change and he would come in and steal. He was bad. He took everything including alcohol, beer, snacks and drinks. He would come in once a week. It is good news that he has been arrested. It is good news for all the businesses here around U.S. 1. He did a lot of damage to businesses."

"I am surprised that he was arrested for murder," he said. "I never thought that he would try to kill somebody. I thought he was just a homeless person taking. Advantage of people not someone who would kill somebody. I am glad 100 per cent that he has been arrested."

Gore reportedly confessed to the murder and burglary during questioning. He's been charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary. He's currently being held without bond.

A judge in bond court on Wednesday afternoon found probable cause for the charges against him.
