Jury Awards $250K To Woman Run Over By Ocean Rescue Truck On Fort Lauderdale Beach

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A jury has awarded a former North Carolina teacher $250,000 for injuries she suffered six years ago on Fort Lauderdale beach.
Rinda Mizelle sued the city after she was run over by an Ocean Rescue truck in April 2012.
Mizelle was sunbathing with her face covered when police say Lt Traci Moll accidentally drove her vehicle on top of Mizelle.
She was cut, bruised and burned.
During the civil trial that began Monday at the Broward County Courthouse, Mizelle testified that the accident left her with chronic pain and she no longer has an active life.
The city argued that the tires of the ocean rescue truck never touched Mizelle and she had no nerve damage
The jury deliberated for just over three hours before reaching their decision Thursday night.
The City of Fort Lauderdale had offered Mizelle's attorney John M. Phillips $40,000 over the past several years before increasing that settlement offer to $100,000 last week.
