MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – A 17-year-old was killed, two others were injured, in an overnight drive-by shooting in Miramar.

The teen, identified by his family as Mendell Lebel, was in the parking lot of the Foxcroft Condominiums at 3195 Foxcroft Road around 10 p.m. Monday when someone inside a vehicle opened fire.

Lebel teen and two adults who were with him were hit. They were taken to the hospital where Lebel died.

“I was in my house watching TV and I heard like six or seven shots. And then I heard a lot of police and fire department,” said Abel Reyes who lives in the complex.

Lebel’s family is looking for answers.

“He happened to be eating. He went outside and he came back upstairs and said somebody be like he got shot, he might be dead, that’s all we know,” said Lebel’s uncle Cliff Hamilton.

Hamilton believes his nephew may not have been the target.

“I don’t know anybody that would be out here to hurt my nephew in no kind of way, shape, or form. If you ask me it has something to do with these dudes that got shot with him,” he said.

“My nephew was innocent,” he said. “I don’t know why anyone would want to hurt him.”

LEBEL’S brother Sidney Henry told CBS4’S Peter D’Oench, “He didn’t even get the chance to turn 21. Mendel didn’t have a beef with anybody. Nobody messed with him, nothing like that. He liked to chill and play music and have fun. It’s crazy that someone took his life.”

Henry said he did not know the men who were shot.

Neighbors say they hope this is the last time something like this happens there.

“It’s a relatively quiet neighborhood. I have lived here since 2006 and I’ve never encountered such a dilemma, you know,” said Clifford Charles.

Police say they believe the shooting suspect’s vehicle was a teal Honda.

There is a reward of up to $3,000.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
