MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A fifteen year old freshman from Miami Edison Senior High was arrested after pulling out a knife in the cafeteria Friday morning.

"I was going to leave the school cause there was a knife.  I'm not going to get killed at school," said student Brian Cardenas who was in the cafeteria and ran away.

A spokesman for the school district says a school employee managed to get the knife away from the student who was taken into custody by police. No one was hurt.

A viewer sent in this cell phone video showing the student banging the knife on a table in the cafeteria.

Some students said the freshman brought the knife to school to protect himself.

"He told me he brought the knife because a couple of guys tried to fight him and he doesn't like to fight so he brought the knife," said classmate Joshua Etienne.

The student was charged with one felony count of possessing a weapon on school grounds and one misdemeanor for unlawful display of a weapon, according to the Miami-Dade School Board.

The ordeal has left some students at Edison feeling uneasy.

"I don't feel safe.  Now anyone can bring a knife without getting caught," said Jazared Fletcher.
