DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A deadly crash has police investigating in South Florida.

Drivers in Delray Beach are shaken up following a fatal collision that killed four people Saturday night and injured four others.

A total of three vehicles were involved in the crash.

According to police, witnesses saw pickup truck speeding on South Federal Highway when it encountered traffic.

The truck tried to avoid traffic by swerving into a turning lane and rear-ended a minivan, which was stopped, waiting to turn onto Lamat Avenue.

The four people in the minivan were killed.

"All first responders are there to rescue people. They want to save a life," said Dani Moschella with Delray Beach Police. "This is very difficult when they realized they couldn't in this case."

Sunday, debris and marks on the road could be seen where the crash took place.

Delray Beach Police have identified the driver as 21-year-old Paul Wilson Streater.

They say he's cooperating with police and he was released from police custody pending the conclusion of the traffic homicide investigation.

According to Streater's attorney, he did remain on scene and offered authorities a blood sample.
