In Havana, thousands took part in a torch-lit march on Saturday night commemorating the 165th anniversary of the birth of the independence hero.

President Raul Castro and Vice President Miguel Diaz Canal led the procession of mostly University of Havana students through central Havana.

The Cuban government says similar marches took place across the U.S.
