Ollie The Pit Bull Dies Days After He Was Stabbed 50 Times

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Ollie was a pit bull mix that suffered so much in his young life.

He was stabbed some 50 times from head to paw, then stuffed in a suitcase and left to die outside a vacant home in Hollywood.

"I'm like a sick animal lover," said Kristen Bagarozza. "I just can't, I can't fathom how anyone could do that."

Kristen and her boyfriend Steve Rogers found Ollie and called 911.

"I heard something moving and I looked over and it's a suitcase, and it looks like a dog is locked in a suitcase," Rogers told the 911 operator. "I'm not one to open the suitcase and get bit. Is there anything you can do?"

They were crushed when she found out he did not survive.

"It's a miracle the dog even lived this long," Kristen said. "I'm really grateful the dog didn't have to die in a suitcase, at least it had a bunch of love around it."

That love came from people like Dr. Nicole Patterson and the staff at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital. They worked for days to save Ollie's life.

"He had extensive wounds to his head and chest and we were all very hopeful he would pull through, make it," said Dr. Nicole Patterson. "He did very well with the surgery, but I think yesterday everything set in. The inflammation, the trauma of everything, and he just wasn't able to make it through, unfortunately."

Thursday night, Ollie's breathing became labored and his heart rate slowed down.

"Everybody here really came to love him. I've never seen the whole group of staff become so emotional about a case," Dr. Patterson added. "There were about 30 people with him when he passed away. Everybody was very upset when it happened."

"He didn't die alone," said Jan Milbyer. "He didn't die alone. He could have died in that suitcase but he didn't. He didn't die alone."

Milbyer did all she could too for Ollie. She's the founder of Grateful Paws. The group was trying to find a home for the dog and was raising money for his care. Now she'd like to see the person responsible get caught and face stiff punishment.

"This is the worst case I have ever seen," she said. "The rage, I just can't comprehended the rage that must have been in this monster who did this."
