MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Harvey continues moving westward over the eastern Caribbean Sea.

At 10:30 p.m., the center of the storm was about 280 miles south of St. Croix.

Harvey is moving toward the west near 18 mph. An even faster motion toward the west is expected during the next couple of days.

On the forecast track, the center of Harvey will move across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea over the weekend.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles to the north of the center.

Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Harvey is expected to produce up to 4 inches of rain across portions of the Windward Islands from Martinique southward to Grenada. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.

In addition to Harvey, there are two other areas of interest in the tropics.

A wave in the Central Atlantic has a high chance of development in the next two to five days. Many computer models show that it could move toward South Florida next week. At the moment it isn't even a closed low, so it's too early to know for sure what type of impact we could see from it.

A third wave near the Cape Verde Islands has a low chance of development in the next two to five days.
