A new arrival at Jackson South Community Hospital marked South Florida's first newborn in the new year.

Nishon'te King was born weighing 5 lbs, 14 oz at 12:32 a.m.

The baby girl makes it six children for parents Standricka Wooden and Nishon King, who now has three older brothers and two sisters.

"It feels wonderful," said Wooden. "She took me through a lot of pain but thank god she is here. She is a New Year's baby."

16 minutes later in Broward County, Marius Pruitt was born at Memorial Regional in Hollywood, weighing 7 and a half lbs. His mother, Jasmine Aldiva loves his new title as one of the first babies born in the new year.

"It's pretty cool, I wouldn't expect that," she said, whose baby was first expected on Christmas Day. Her only resolutions for the new year were that her kids were "safe and healthy."

At Mount Sinai, baby Yefry Medina arrived at 12:48 a.m., weighing just over 7 lbs.

Last year, the first baby born arrived at 12:10 a.m.
