MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Those using the Venetian Causeway to go to and from Miami Beach will need to make some adjustments to their commute.

The East drawbridge on the causeway was closed Monday to complete rehabilitation work on the bridge and the adjacent fixed bridge.

The bridge will remain closed to vehicular, cycling and pedestrian traffic until the work is completed on December 29th or sooner, according to the Department of Transportation.

Drivers may use the MacArthur and Julia Tuttle causeways as alternate routes, however, cyclist should be aware that those causeways are not bike-friendly.

When it comes to public transportation, Route A buses are being detoured  until the bridge reopens. Click here to plan your route.

During that same time, the department will also be working on improving the roadway on the Venetian Causeway from the eastern approach of the West Venetian Bridge to N. Venetian Drive.

While there may be some lane closures, traffic in both directions will remain flowing at all times. That construction is expected to be completed before the Christmas holidays, according to the department.
