MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Barry Jenkins, who is from South Florida, is celebrating Monday night after learning “Moonlight” is up for multiple Golden Globe nominations, including best director.
We first introduced you to Jenkins and writer Tarell Alvin McCraney back in October when the film hit theaters.
The coming-of-age story follows a young man over two decades of his life growing up in the tumultuous Liberty City neighborhood.
Jenkins responded to the nominations with a tweet, writing, in part, “Thanks to Golden Globes for showing Moonlight so much love this morning.”
Fresh off his Critics Choice Award win Sunday night, Mahershala Ali was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in Moonlight in which he plays Juan, a crack dealer who befriends the young main character Chiron.
Moonlight’s six nominations puts it just one nod shy of musical “La La Land” which leads the pack this year.
