TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) — One thing that has been a constant during President Barack Obama's presidency is the appreciation he shows for people in the armed forces.

President Obama is coming to Florida in the final weeks of his presidency for that very reason.

The White House announced that the president will meet Tuesday with active duty service members at MacDill Air Force Base, the home of the U.S. Special Operations Command and U.S. Central Command.

While in Tampa, President Obama is also expected to deliver remarks on the counterterrorism campaign and meet with uniformed leadership from both commands.

The president has frequently visited Florida during his eight years. He carried the state twice during his 2008 and 2012 campaigns and he campaigned for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the state earlier this year.

President-elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.
