7-year-old Jayden McFarlane woke up in the hospital after a hit-and-run driver nearly ended his life. He was riding his bike in front of his home Sunday when a neighbor's surveillance camera captured the crash.

"My ankle was hurting bad, my arm was hurting bad and my knee was hurting bad," he said from his hospital bed. "That's all I remember."

His mother remembers collapsing in the E.R. when she saw her son unconscious in a neck brace.

"He wasn't even answering, looking at me, nothing," said Felissa McFarlane. "He was just laying there."

But since Sunday, the first grader has shown remarkable resilience while enduring the pain of a concussion, broken collarbone and swollen ankle.

"I'm thankful," she said. "Because now I get to go home and mail his letter that he wrote to Santa. So now I'm thankful."

Lotsy Dotsy, the hospital's resident clown, is a welcome distraction from the constant pain -- and talk about his favorite superhero.

"He shoots webs and I like when he shoots webs," Jayden said, who's frown turned around as soon as Spider-Man is mentioned.

The owner of the van that hit Jayden has contacted police but no one has been arrested. That's frustrating for mom.

"To see a kid up, flying over your windshield and whatnot, you went about your business, like he wasn't nothing to somebody," said McFarlane. "He's something to me, to us."

Jayden's bike was destroyed in the accident and, not that his mom may approve, but he's vowed that his pedalling days aren't over.

"I'm still gonna ride," he said. "But that guy should pay for it."
