HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Police are asking for the public's help to catch the person responsible for the crime last month at a Broward County Shamrock Gas Station.

The Hollywood Police Department are trying to locate and identify the individual who attacked and attempted to rob the gas station's clerk, beating him with a pipe.

The incident took place on Friday, October 14th at 2:05 p.m.

Newly released surveillance video shows a black male entering the gas station, which is located at 5600 Washington Street in Hollywood.

The male had a metal pipe in his left hand and struck the clerk as he attempted to walk back into the secured office.

"I was just doing something here," said Mohammed Shahadat, the clerk seen in the video. "He came in as a customer."

Trying to incapacitate Shahadat, the suspect continued to strike him with the pipe and his fists.

"Basically he just try to hit me unconscious so whatever he can get, he can get," said Shahadat. "He tried to beat me unconscious and get whatever he can."

Shahadat fought back and managed to take the pipe away from the suspect, which prevented the robbery.

The suspect ended up fleeing out of the front door of the gas station.  He is seen in the video with a full beard, wearing sunglasses and an Atlanta Braves baseball cap.

"If this guy was going to ask me to take the money, give me the money, I would have given it to him, no big deal," said Shahadat. "But the way he was doing it was no good. It was no good at all."

Anyone with information is asked to call Hollywood Police at 954-967-4411.
