MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A standoff ended with a man shot by police, but it started with a lawyer getting shot in his Kendall office.

Rescue crews transported a person with an apparent gunshot wound from the law office located at 11420 North Kendall Drive.

"As I was pulling in, I saw the ladies running out of the office and saying, 'There's a shooter, there's a shooter, get out, get out, call the police, call the police.' So I got into my car and I called 911," said Rosie Vazquez. "I saw one of the police officers and asked 'has he been caught?' He said he fled in a pick-up truck and it looks like it was an attorney that was shot."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials say that person, identified by police as Larry Harshman, was taken as a trauma alert to Kendall Regional Hospital around 11 a.m. He remains there in critical condition.

Those who work at the building identify Harshman as a real estate attorney.

"It looks like it was the attorney that was shot, the attorney in that office right there who is the husband of one of the realtors from the office that I work at and he was taken by ambulance to emergency," said Vazquez.

Shortly after the shooting, Miami-Dade police had the name of the suspect, 54-year-old Fadel Jabado.

It led them to a South Miami-Dade home where they found the bodies of Bassima Jabado, the suspect's wife, and Ahmed Jabado, his son. They were both shot to death.

Police later found Fadel Jabado  at the edge of a patch of farm land near 200th St. and 157th Ave.

"The first officers who did approach, that individual did come out with a firearm and shot at police officers," explained Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez.

From Chopper4, you could see Fadel Jabado outside a red van.

Police began talking with him, and a negotiator was called in.

"The individual told our negotiator that he intended to die today and he wanted police officers to kill him. He did not want to do it to himself because of his religion," Perez explained.

Early on police would not officially identify the two victims in the home.

CBS4'S Peter D'Oench tried speaking to a man, who along with a woman, showed up at the home.

"No, I won't say anything. I am sorry I can't talk," is all he said.

At the standoff, police continued to talk to the suspect. He kept going in and out of the vehicle, brandishing a weapon.

But the time for talk was over when he moved towards a police officer.

"Once he started making a move towards them the gun raised in their direction, unfortunately, he had to discharge his fire arm," Perez said.

Fadel Jabado was airlifted to Jackson South Hospital. At last report, he had suffered several gunshot wounds to the stomach and was in critical condition.

According to court records reviewed by CBS4, Harshman has represented Jabado before as his attorney.
