PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- Two teenagers have been taken into custody following a brazen armed carjacking in Pembroke Pines.

Around 9:15 p.m. Friday, the two suspects, ages 16 and 17, were riding south in a blue Chevrolet, near the 300 block of S.W. 67th Terrace, with a third person behind the wheel.

They spotted a 2016 Ford Explorer and were able to overtake the vehicle, forcing the 50-year-old victim to slow down and eventually stop, according to Pembroke Pines Police.

The armed teens then jumped out of their car and took the Ford Explorer, police said, while the driver in the Chevrolet drove off.

That led to a police chase when officers spotted the stolen SUV near University Drive and Pines Blvd, and tried to pull them over.

"While fleeing from law enforcement, the Ford Explorer crashed into another motorist near the 2700 block of South University Drive, within the City of Miramar," the police report said.

The crash resulted in minor damage but no one was hurt.

The suspects abandoned the SUV near the 7900 block of Miramar Parkway but were eventually located after an extensive search involving the Miami-Dade Aviation Unit and K-9 Teams from both Pembroke Pines PD and Miramar PD.

Both suspects were charged.
