MIAMI (CBSMiami) – North Miami police are investigating the possible drownings of two young children.

The two children, a 1-year-old and 2-year-old, were brought rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital unresponsive.

They're in the trauma unit right now in critical condition.

Police said a family member found the kids shortly after 8 p.m. and pulled them out of the pool.

When they were pulled out they were unresponsive and family immediately called 911 and began performing CPR.

Police said it's uncertain at this time if the kids live at this home. CBS4's Tiani Jones only learned the family lives there.

Right now investigators are simply trying to figure out how the kids ended up in the pool, while providing comfort to the family.

"This is always very difficult for police and for fire when they respond to something like this because we always associate it with our own personal families and we always have a difficult time but we try and do our best and try and support the family the best that we can," said Cmdr. Rafael Estrugo.
