Lauren's List: What You Should Only Spend $1.00 On

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- If you like a good bargain, you'll appreciate today's "Lauren's List".

A 'dollar store' is a treasure trove of knick-knacks and necessary household items.

From cleaning supplies to party favors, you can find plenty of stuff for the low price of one buck. But that price tag is only a bargain when it comes to certain items.

You're not exactly saving money if you're paying one dollar for a single role of single ply toilet paper!

So, here's a list of some of the items you should only be spending $1 on.

  1. Certain school supplies: Paper clips, tab dividers and poster boards are all usually cheaper at a dollar store than a traditional office supply shop. Skip the composition books and crayons, though. The cheaper crayons tend to break very easily, and other stores sell notebooks with more pages, thus giving you more bang for your buck.
  2. Hair accessories: If you're anything like me, you lose your hair ties, bobby pins and headbands after just one use. So why pay full price if you know you're going to have to buy them again and again. Stock up on a couple packs of each so you never run out.
  3. Greeting cards: The average birthday or holiday card will run you about 3 dollars. And let's face it, they usually end up in the trash. When you pay just one dollar for your greeting card, maybe you'll send them more often, and make someone's day in the process.
  4. Party and seasonal decorations: By some estimates, you can save up to 70 % by purchasing party supplies from a dollar store. Get plastic tablecloths, paper plates and cups, streamers and favors from the dollar store and save a bundle. They also sell those foil balloons that often cost 5 times more at grocery stores.

I'm always looking for a good deal, so tell me what you pay just $1 for!
