LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) -- Detectives have identified a person shot and killed outside a Lauderdale Lakes Walmart over the weekend.

Broward Sheriff's deputies said the gunman shot and killed 50-year old Kennedy Lee on Sunday in broad daylight.

The store located on Oakland Park Boulevard and 441 was full of shoppers around 2 p.m. when the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the store.

Deputies said Lee was rushed to the hospital where he died within the hour.

Shoppers were told to stay put and were kept inside the store for more than five hours.

Now, detectives are trying to figure out what prompted the shooting and if Lee knew the gunman who remains at large.

"Right now it really is a bit of a mystery and detectives are working hard to unravel it," explained BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter on Sunday.

Bullet holes could be seen marking the sides of many nearby vehicles.

"I walked up and saw everyone hovering over the body. Somebody got shot in the head," said shopper Orga Espady on Sunday. He said he just stopped by to pick up food, never expecting he'd see a dead body in the middle of the afternoon.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
