MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Before making their way to Miami International Airport, passengers traveling on the 15th anniversary of September 11th were greeted with extra security both inside and outsidethe terminals.

Travelers took notice of the beefed up police presence.

"I see lots of police officers around," said traveler Graham Anthony.

"Coming in today, there was police out there today, in particular, that seemed to be a little more, a little more protective," said passenger David Schobb.

It is because of the extra security that passengers we spoke with said they had no concern traveling on 9/11.

"It's the safest day of the year to travel," said Fred Skidmore. "Security is wonderful on this day as it is most times. People do an excellent job at securing this country."

Saturday, a suspicious car outside of Concourse D caused a security scare. The roadways on both levels were temporarily closed before the Miami-Dade Police bomb squad determined the vehicle posed no threat.

"I feel that everything is fine," said Samal Naime, traveling with her children. "I don't see anything that would make me feel afraid or something."

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, county leaders took part in a dedication ceremony of a September 11th Memorial.

The memorial has two simple, yet powerful words: "Never Forget."
